STRIVE FOR EXCELLENCE, NOT PERFECTION
By Dr.P.Sangeetha
“To be
human is to live our highest potentials”
We
as human always dream of fame, success, and growth. We struggle in our lives
to live to our highest potential. We are struggling to achieve growth and
excellence on personal, profession and academic level. Many of us are aware of
what it takes to grow and succeed while most of us are not aware of how one can
be successful and can achieve excellence on all levels. Most of us want
excellence but are not ready to strive for achieving excellence. To grow and
achieve excellence, we should make excellence as our top priority in all
aspects of our lives and it can be achieved by always striving to do better.
Excellence is the condition of surpassing some standards of expectations.
We as an individual, without looking
at our personal skills that are the root causes, try to deal with challenges
around us which includes work, family, friends, career and finance etc. We grow
and succeed only when we have mastery over ourselves.
There is no good alternative to the
goal of perfectionism- seeking top performance in yourself, and being
constantly dissatisfied at less-than-perfect results. Be your own best critic,
drawing attention to your faults, and going in search of excellence.
Seeking Perfection:
The pursuit of the highest possible
standards automatically points you towards achieving excellence. If you achieve
perfection in any activity, you must be the best, which is the proper objective
in any context. In practice, aiming for excellence will mean performing
significantly better than your present standards, which are always imperfect.
Being the Best:
You want to be the best at what you
do. That means looking at the performance of others to see not just what they
do well, but how it could be dramatically improved. Being the best means
setting new standards, very likely by adopting new ways. This drive for reform
can be very demanding, but also highly rewarding.
Being Self - Critical:
You need a high personal opinion of
your aptitudes and the way you apply them. By acting on your own most severe
critic, you avoid complacency and substitute the pursuit of excellence.
4 Secrets to achieving excellence without the burnout:
- Be
driven from inspiration, not desperation. From love, not from fear.
- Choose
to strive for excellence, not perfection.
- Use
your strengths, but don’t be used by them.
- Release
the attachment to the outcome.
A desire for perfection is not a weakness;
it is a strength that very few possess. This is the talent that can
transform the world, make things better, innovate, and create new solutions to
problems. Do not give it up; if you have it develop it and train it to the
maximum potential.
“Excellence is
a habit.” – Aristotle
